Superfans are no shows; Herdan pinch hits

Stan,
The big losers tonight at the Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud were anyone who came out to see the "Superfans" from Alexandria. Apparently they were a no show.
Fortunately both Cardinal Hockey Teams did show up as they pulled off a sweep over the St. Cloud teams. In the opening game the boys team took on St. Cloud Apollo. The Cards scored first and stayed one or two goals ahead all the way pulling out a 5-3 victory. In the nightcap the girls did it the hard way.
Beth Rindy, Claire Illies, and Megan Trenne scored early goals to give the Cardinals and early 3-0 lead. The St. Cloud Ice Breakers (St. Cloud Apollo and St. Cloud Cathedral) then clawed their way back into the game on a goal from Mary Spethman and two goals from Emily Reugemer.
After being tied late into the third period Alex got first a power play and then a full strength goal from Allie Nielson to win the game 5-3.
I was standing right next to Dave Harris when Allie scored her first goal and was immediately deafened when Dave went nuts. Live on the air he screams at me, "See, I still get just as excited as I used to!" However, age is beginning to take it's toll on the poor man as he then started to refer to the Icebreakers as the Eagles (Apollo). I would poke him each time and he would correct himself. It kept me pretty busy.
I did also get to meet Michelle Anez's dad. He's a really great guy and a really bright light after hanging out with Harris and Savegeau. Actually, Tom Savegeau is a perfect match with Dave as he sits there calmly as Dave bounces around and then steps right in when Dave pauses to take a breath or (as he did tonight) runs off to go potty. Dave did tell me the story about his retirement as coach of the Cardinal Golf Team after finishing 3rd at the state tournament last year. He coached for 34 years and definitely went out on top.
For me, Dave Harris has been Cardinal Athletics since I really got to know him 31 years ago. He has been a rare gift to the whole Alexandria area and I hope everyone else appreciates him as much as I do. He says he might show me how to really play golf in his free time this summer. Kathryn Del Zoppo and Danielle Justice make an appearance in St. Cloud on Friday night as Gustavus comes to town to play the College Of St. Benedict, my next door neighbors. I probably won't make the game but I might just file a report.

P.S. For a short period of time traffic on the mezzanine came to a halt as the Alexandria Aces made an appearance at the Gopher Basketball game which was being shown live during the hockey game. (sorry, my camera was at home but, as it turns out, there was nothing to take pictures of)
