Last night's old-timers pre-Thanksgiving gathering at the Sixth Ave Wine and Ale prompted an announcement. Organizer Taryn Nelson Flolid of the Class of 1974 is related to our Tom Kiehne. This morning our Cub Reporter Tom Obert, with a teeny hangover, reported in:
Tom writes:
Taryn Nelson Flolid, class of '74, greeted Professor Doctor Colonel Tom Kiehne, class of '65, at SAWA. It turns out both are avocational genealogists and were aware they are related to each other. Taryn's husband, Chuck, is also related to Doctor Kiehne, though he is not related to Taryn except through direct marriage.
This raises two issues: 1) There is a mini-Stearns County syndrome going on in Douglas County; 2) I took anthropology and at one time had at least a working understanding of the Eskimo kinship system - I had no idea what these two were talking about!
The Obert family tree was never traced any further back than Orange Obert, who deserted during the Civil War to return home to Iowa to get the crops in. Happy Thanksgiving!
