In fond memory of Diane Hass Schulz
Judith Angus Bortscheller hasn't sent us a bio yet (like a lot of other classmates) but she wanted to be sure we had the following information on an old friend, Diane Hass Schulz. She writes: "It was with great sadness that I found out Diane died in 2000. We only corresponded once a year, usually at Christmas time, and that year her husband, Lynn, answered my letter. I'm going to condense what he sent me:"
Diane Marie Hass, daughter of Loren and Ruth (Wussow) Hass was born on April 16, 1947 in Alexandria, Minnesota. She attended school through the 8th grade in Garfield and graduated from high school in Alexandria. She continued her education at St. Cloud State, graduating in 1969 with a Bachelor's Degree in elementary education.
On June 15, 1968, she was united in marriage to Lynn Schulz (Class of 64) at St. John's Lutheran Church in Garfield. She taught school for three years and had two children while living in the state of Virginia before moving to Morris with her family in 1974 where Lynn had been offered a position at the University of Minnesota.
In 1980, she resumed her teaching career until January 2000 when she was diagnosed with colon cancer. She underwent surgery in February followed by aggressive chemo and radiation treatment. Unfortunately, neither were successful and Diane passed away on June 15, 2000, which was her and Lynn's 32nd wedding anniversary.
Diane was a member of the Jaycee Women, Framnes Jolly Workers Homemakers and the Women of Zion. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and was also church corresponding secretary for a number of years. She served on the church council for two years, and was the church librarian.
Diane enjoyed reading, spending time at the lake, teaching, coffee parties with her co-workers and cooking. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, epecially her two sisters.
Diane is survived by her husband Lynn, son Scott and daughter Kimberly (Scott) Persoon, her mother, Ruth Hass of Garfield; two sisters, Karen (Larry) Noetzelman of Alexandria and Patricia (Roger) Dittberner of Parkers Prairie and many nieces and nephews. At the time of her death, her daughter Kim was pregnant with Diane's first grandchild.
