Oh, never mind, the winery will stay, no casino

Winter scene near Lake Darling. No wildlife in this one. Just gorgeous winter color. In other outdoor news, Cub Reporter Tom Obert says that fish houses have appeared on the lakes, and advises readers to stand by for the first casualty reports. (Photo by T. Obert)

No Sale to report after all

Under the heading "Whew, that was a close call," we finally learned last night at the Mr. Jack Daniels Original Silver Cornet Band Hometown Christmas concert that Carlos Creek Winery has NOT been sold. I don't know how these rumors get started . . . or are perpetuated (except for people like me!), but the mayor of Alexandria told us that while the winery owners have sold their lake home (and that they winter in Florida), their plans are to build a new home on the winery property next year.
It was amazing the consternation the sale rumor was causing (even from the owner of Geneva Golf Club) - particularly how an Indian casino, with the cheap food associated with such places, would hurt all the restaurants in town.

In other small news
The mayor's son bought Kathy Sherry's old house in the Victoria Heights. Reporter Obert partied at their neighbors' last night and noted some fine Christmas decorations in there and elsewhere.
Also, a heads-up for the locals, the mayor said that the U of M alumni association plans on taking a couple of buses to the Gopher women's basketball game against Michigan State on January 15. All aboard! Posted by Picasa
