Brownies 1956

Hey, Stan:
In cleaning my office tonight, I came across this photo that I apparently pulled out last summer, just before the reunion. I thought it might be fun to post it since it’s the “50th anniversary” of this particular gathering (ugh! That sounds SO long ago.) Thankfully, I seemed to have labeled everything as a child, and though some of the names may not be spelled correctly, I think that people will certainly know who they are.
For whatever reason, I didn’t write in the names of the leaders, but I think I know who four out of the five are, left to right, Mrs. Thompson (Patty’s mom); Mrs. Anderson (Jill’s mom); Mrs. Olson (I know this is Marilyn’s mom); Mrs. Peterson (Patty’s mom); and the last lady I don’t know. Maybe someone out there can verify.
Notice there wasn’t a pair of pants on anyone’s legs?

Oh brother I remember that dress!! It was a reversible red quilted dress that I HATED but my mother liked it so guess who won.

The Sevey to Open 2006; Serie close to heaven

The Seveys will be traveling the world with some youngsters this summer, but their annual Alexandria golf tourney may go on without them. If you haven't been contacted yet but might want to play this August, contact the trailboss and he'll put you in touch with the usual suspects.

Speaking of the usual suspects, (see photo) the following note came from Dave Serie recently. Apparently he had a spiritual experience at the Alexandria Country Club. No one was there to witness it, however. The cub reporter was elsewhere and couldn't make it. Series writes:

To all-
The Alex Country Club course was in fantastic shape. I was up getting my boat Friday morning and stopped in to get an application for the Resorters. Not sure if I can get in yet but anyway Jeremy from the pro shop said the course is wide open and why not golf, so I did.

It was very relaxing, beautiful weather with no wind, played by myself, worked on a couple of things, shot 18 holes in 2:20 and shot 80, it was as close to Heaven as I'll maybe ever get!

Sorry for the late notice Tom, it would have been fun playing with you.

Softball girls win amidst thunder and lightning

By Tom Obert
Cub Reporter
With thunder and lightning crashing all around us, the Alex girls softball team won the first game of a best of three championship in section 8AAA, beating Willmar 4 - 1. Before a standing room only crowd (we got box seats through Ticketmaster) at Lincoln South field, the game began on a beautiful June evening (in fact, the cub reporters had planned an evening lake cruise after the game) - sunshine and actually a bit on the too hot side.
Due to the importance of the game, all the parents we had seen all through the hockey season were there - as well as the hockey players who aren't on the softball team.
Shortly after the game began, dark clouds began forming in the West and late arrivers said radar reports indicated a storm was imminent. But the game continued apace as Tiffany Zacher, the Card hurler, and the Willmar pitcher threw goose eggs for the first 4 innings. The Cards broke through for a 1 - 0 lead in the fifth on a 2-out single - but it appeared that the game could be called at any minute as it was obviously raining just to the west with occasional lightning.

In the bottom of the 6th, Brittney Bruzek led off with a single - clean-up hitter Sam Dale then laid down a perfect bunt that turned into about a three-foot "home run."
The pitcher fielded the bunt but threw the ball into right field - as Brittney and Sam raced around the bases, the right fielder threw the ball into the Alex dugout so both runners scored.

The Cards scored one more run in that inning to take a 4 - 0 into the top of the 7th. Then the rain began, and the cub reporter-in-training, wimp that he is, took a powder. The rest of us hung there as the Cards, obviously excited at the prospect of of big win and rushing to get it over before a rain postponement, suddenly discovered that Willmar had bases loaded with nobody out.
Miss Zacher settled down and got the next three batters for the big win. As the Cards rushed into left field for the after game celebration (attached photo) and fans began heading for their cars, the skies opened and we soon found ourselves in a mad dash for cover - the game could not have lasted one more batter!
The Cards travel to Willmar tomorrow - if Willmar wins the first game, there will be a deciding game played immediately thereafter. If the Cards win one more game, they will be in the state tournament. Posted by Picasa

This is what I get?

A few days ago the Trailboss asked for suggestions for children's books to read to grandchildren, thinking we might have a nice, sweet exchange on material suitable for our dear ones. Nothing was forthcoming until this, from Joe Drexler, with apologies to Dr. Seuss.
