Homecoming 2008 Movies!

The cub reporter has discovered a button on his digital camera that will deliver a moving picture. We are proud to announce the first homecoming movie to be presented on the class blog. Get your popcorn, then click on the forward icon on the player, above. Please ignore the Cub's sound effects, the "AHHHH" was not intended as a commentary.

Fond memories of Alice Johnson

Classmate Karl Tegland writes:
I was sorry to learn of the death of Alice Johnson, our school nurse.
Alice and her husband, Lloyd "Army" Johnson, lived just down the road from us and were two of the nicest people I've ever met. I never heard either of them say a negative word about anybody.
Alice always welcomed the neighborhood kids into their house and often gave us her homemade fudge -- the best in the world. Army Johnson owned a laundry (located across the alley from the back of the Corner Bar) and did all the gym towels for the school system. I still remember seeing his green Rambler parked in the alley behind Central Junior High in the late afternoon, when he was picking up towels.
I have nothing but fond childhoold memories of both of them.

Kudos from Carolyn

Carolyn Hoffland writes:
Wow! Stan, you did it again, your "video" was fantastic, you really pulled at our "heart" strings! Our daughter, Melissa, is right, this is one of the best blog sites yet. We are so happy that alot of other "years" classmates write in. We keep more updated on this blog with Alexandria and alumni, than most. Keep up the good work, Stan. And, thanks to the "others" who played a part in this production as well.

Fondly, Carolyn Hoffland
PS: Melissa your Dad is an "angel"!

Donley Bros. Canoe Works

Paul Donley describes this photo recently sent to friends:

My brother, Bill, is on far left side of canoe and also pictured is our instructor, Ken, and me being front right. Bill and I spent twelve great days together in Grand Marais, Mn. building this cedar-strip canoe. Bill, being from New York, is a family member that I seldom have been able to see over the last thirty-five years. There is joy in connecting with family, even if he is Republican. We had a ball and for those who wish, more pictures to come.

Kathy, Nancy and Barb Paciotti

Hi,
This is Nancy Paciotti and I often drop in on the JHS Boomers site even though I graduated in 1973. I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed the You Tube video of the Silvertones. LOVED IT!

Thanks

Bulldog... Wipeout. . .

Karl Tegland with Raucous --- before his "retirement."

Stan,
What a pleasant suprise to see my name mentioned in the blog -- and to hear my guitar again!! And Stan, what a great job you did with all the pictures. Thank you so much.
The soundtrack is a combination of Bulldog (The Fireballs, 1960) and Wipeout (The Surfaris, 1963). It was recorded in about 1999 at an outdoor gig with The Eagle Creek Band. The Eagle Creek Band morphed into the RaucousBand in 2001, specializing in dance music for casinos -- so no more instrumental oldies!!
I retired from the RaucousBand in 2004. I decided that lugging out heavy equipment in the rain at 2:00 a.m. was a job for younger people. But I still enjoy music and -- again -- thoroughly enjoyed this entry on the JHS blog!

Wowzers

WOWZERS! You” 60 something’s” are really ROCKING this blog! I am Harland’s daughter, and I frequently visit your blog site to see what kind of scoop I can find on my father! You know he always told Sara and I that he was “a perfect angel”, but we know better than that! SO, any scoop we can get would be great! I have learned so much already, and I am afraid to say that his “angel” image has been shattered!

On a serious note…this is one of the best blog sites! I am the class of 1989 at JHS, and word has it that there may not even be a reunion, as there is no committee! So, keep rockin’ on Class of 65……..you have it made!

Rock on, Karl

For many of us, our first taste of live Rock and Roll occurred in the Alexandria Junior High Auditorium, when the Silvertones electrified a packed house one night in the late 50s. Boys like Bruce Phelps, Willie Penny, Al Esterberg, Rick Beresford and others performed this new music we’d heard only on the radio, but our very own Rock and Roller was K.B. Tegland.
Parents said Rock 'n Roll was just a fad. But we knew we’d never outgrow it. It was here to stay.
Decades later, K.B. was in a band, still playing his guitar, now in the State of Washington. This little video features riffs from Karl and the Eagle Creek Band at a live performance near Seattle.
Thanks to Karl for the music, and classmates for the photos. Hope you like the flick. And be sure to crank the volume.

Eleven more found in Alexandria lake

The trailboss' Shakopee neighbor and a guide netted a dozen muskellunge monsters yesterday and Thursday at a secret location in Alexandria. Derek, above, says the catch of muskies measured between 48 and 52 inches and weighed between 30 and 40 pounds. They were all carefully released. Stan, who carried one dozen 40-pound bags of system-saver salt to his basement water softener this afternoon, was impressed by Derek's fish photos and the size of the massive catch. Derek was impressed that Stan was able to immediately guess the name of the mystery Alexandria lake, and was quickly sworn to secrecy. It would now require at least a bottle of single malt scotch to learn the location. (No, they weren't caught off Obert's dock on Lake Darling.)
Derek's guide was Jason Hammernick, below, well-known Mille Lacs area sportsman.

The Cub shoots Yogi

For his 61st birthday present, Tom Obert received a copy of "Digital Photography for Dummies." Today he submitted this perfectly-exposed, nicely-framed photograph, claiming it was taken somewhere near Lake Ida or Lake Miltona. He did not report the name, age or address of his subject, nor the results of an interview.

Note to Ruthie: Next year, "Journalism for Dummies." :)

(Perhaps there is an explanation: After chasing me up the tree, she ate my notes?)
How did you spend your summer vacation? Send a photo to trailboss@swpub.com

Old people send us their pictures (just kidding)

The Class of '63 had a reunion last July. Here’s a picture of ’64 alumna, Vicki Steffen Melaas, and Roger Melaas '63. David Erickson, '63, is on the left with his wife, Linda.

Dave sent the photos and this kind note:
"Thanks for this site…..I click on it at least once a week!"
(Thanks much for the photo. We love hearing from all Alexandria classes. TB)
